Project Overview:

In cooperation with the towns of Center Harbor and Moultonborough, the Lakes Region Planning Commission submitted a Special Research Project grant application to the New Hampshire Department of Transportation for a corridor study on NH Route 25 from the Meredith/Center Harbor town line east to NH Route 109 south. Based on recommendations in the transportation plan for the Lakes Region, it has been established that primary east/west corridors are critical for the region. The purpose of the study is to gain an understanding of potential development impacts along the corridor and to make recommendations regarding corridor preservation and access management. The study proposes to accomplish the following:

  1. Involve corridor communities in a public process through facilitated meetings of a Local Advisory Working Group (LAWG). The LAWG will consists of key stakeholders instrumental in the identification of transportation corridor issues through a consensus driven process.
  2. Inventory existing conditions to include traffic volume, turning movements, accident data, existing land use, zoning, etc.
  3. Conduct a build out analysis along the corridor based on existing land use regulations and ordinances using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to forecast future traffic volume within the study area.
  4. Develop an inventory of access points in the study area and recommendations for future access management including potential purchase of access rights, and amendments to local ordinances and regulations.
