Transit Coordination Continues with the Development of the Belknap/Merrimack Regional Coordination Council (RCC)

Over the past several months a steering committee has worked Central NH and Lakes Region Planning Commissions staff to establish a Belknap/Merrimack Regional Coordination Council (RCC). All participants have worked diligently to develop the documents needed to apply to the state to be formally acknowledged as an RCC. Groups interested in RCC participation will complete memoranda of understanding (MOU) by 5:00 PM on Wednesday, June 30, 2010.

To date, a number of signed MOU’s from organizations interested in improving the coordination of transit and human services in their region have been received. Examples of organizations who have committed to take part include: Granite State Independent Living, Community Action Program Belknap-Merrimack Counties Inc., Merrimack County Department of Corrections, Lakes Region Partnership for Public Health, and NH Department of Employment Security.

Application Materials: Components of a RCC application were reviewed and refined during RCC Steering Committee meetings on April 14, May 12, and June 9. These components included the following:

Mission Statement - The mission of the Region 3 Regional Coordinating Council is to improve mobility and access for all by coordinating regional and local community transportation services and information.

Next Steps: Submission of an application in July to the State Coordination Council (SCC) to formally acknowledge the Belknap/Merrimack RCC. Pending SCC approval, the first meeting of the newly formed RCC is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, August 11 at:

Draft Coordinated Transit & Human Services Transportation Plan - The Central New Hampshire and Lakes Region Planning Commissions recently updated the regional transportation plan with the assistance of a variety of stakeholders and potential RCC member organizations. The coordinated plan staff report provides a summary of comments received during a public comment period. The plan is in draft format pending formal adoption by the planning commissions.
