Region 3 - Belknap County and portions of Hillsborough and Merrimack Counties

The DRAFT Plan is now available for public comment. The comment peroid for this plan is open until March 24th, 2010

A purpose of the Coordinated Transit & Human Services Plan for Region 3 is to enhance coordination between human service agencies and transportation providers in the region. Specifically, the plan aims to improve transit services for the elderly, disabled and low-income residents of the region.

Please provide comments to Ruairi O’Mahony, Transportation Planner for the Central NH Regional Planning Commission or Michael Izard, Principal Planner for the Lakes Region Planning Commission.

Purpose:

The Central New Hampshire Regional Planning Commission, with cooperation from the Lakes Region Planning Commission has begun the process of updating the Coordinated Transit and Human Services Transportation Plan for Belknap County and the Central NH Region. The existing Coordinated Plan has been in place since June 2008. It is now time to update this plan to ensure that evolving transit and human services needs are continually met by the appropriate federal transit funding.

The updated plan will meet SAFETEA-LU's federal planning requirement for the Federal Transit Administration's Section 5310 (Elderly Individuals and Individuals with Disabilities), Section 5316 (Job Access and Reverse Commute -- JARC) and Section 5317 (New Freedom) Programs of developing a locally coordinated public transit - human services transportation plan. This plan will be used by the New Hampshire Department of Transportation to review applications for the Job Access Reverse Commute and New Freedom grants. Projects must come from this coordinated plan to be considered eligible for federal funding under these two programs.

Plan Goals:
  • Identifying unmet transportation needs and gaps in service
  • Completing an inventory of existing public and private transit and human service transportation providers
  • Identifying strategies to maximize the use of limited transportation resources through coordination
  • Enhancing mobility within and between communities
  • Increasing access to jobs, schools, medical centers, and other essential human services
  • Increasing citizen awareness of public transit and human service transportation providers and programs

Surveys Open:

The regional planning commissions are asking for your help in collecting information to make the Coordinated Plan more dynamic. The planning commissions have developed a survey focused on collecting information from transit providers and organizations that provide transportation services. This survey is critical in informing the updated plan and the future development of an RCC for the region.
